The handpan is a musical instrument that is currently trending among amateurs. Purchasing this instrument is not a decision to be taken lightly. Several selection criteria must be taken into account. In the rest of this article, you will learn more about it.
Take your needs into account
To choose your handpan, you must consider your needs. The purpose for which you want to use your handpan is a decisive selection criterion. The handpan instrument can be used for entertainment, for meditation, for special occasions or regularly. If you decide to play your handpan outside your home, the ideal would be to opt for a nitrided handpan. Stainless steel handpans are perfect if you like to play where it's crowded and lively, like the beach. The price of the handpan is also a criterion to take into account. Handpans are generally expensive and the quality of the instrument you choose will impact the price.
Take into account the number of notes
The number of notes is an important criterion in choosing your handpan. You can opt for a D minor handpan with 9 or 10 notes. There are even handpans with almost 17 notes. However, be careful not to exaggerate the number of notes at the risk of the sounds interfering with each other and creating bad melodies. For a beginner or for the first time, it is recommended to choose a handpan of 9 or 10 notes or with a central note.
Choose your handpan according to the frequency
With handpans, there are two types of frequencies: the 432hz frequency and the 440hz frequency. The standard frequency used is 432hz. It is easier to tune and is ideal for beginners. This frequency goes perfectly with soft and relaxing music. The 440hz frequency is a little more complex. It is used by experienced and professional players. If you are a beginner, we recommend a handpan with the 432hz frequency.
